A hotspot for wildlife and bird-watching enthusiasts, Los Llanos – The Plains – is a vast tropical grassland to the east of the Andes in Colombia and Venezuela
While in Venezuela, I went on a three day trip to explore the sprawling savannah of Los Llanos. It was one if the best wildlife watching experiences of my life. There were so many ‘firsts’ for me: seeing a giant anteater, pink river dolphins and a mighty anaconda!
I spent about a month in Venezuela, volunteering with conservationists from Asociación Civil Provita on Margarita Island.
They’re working to protect the yellow-shouldered parrot from the illegal pet trade and habitat destruction, by creating positive change within local communities.
