Photography: Mexico’s wild Sierra Gorda mountains

Nature and landscape photography from the wild mountains of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, a vast one million acre protected area in Central Mexico

This striking landscape, in one of the most diverse regions of Mexico, is protected thanks to the conservation work of Grupo Ecológico Sierra Gorda (GESG). It’s a melting pot where tropical forests meet temperate mountains and semi-deserts.

The reserve is home to a wealth of wildlife; noisy Military Macaws can be spotted circling the reserve’s sinkhole canyons, the flowering agave plants attract vibrant feasting hummingbirds, while six cat species roam the forests – including top predators the jaguar and puma.
